Baby Café

The Baby Cafe meets twice a month to be a meeting place for parents, carers and very young children.

Sue Marsland, its leader in 2003, wrote then

"Baby Cafe has been operating for two years now and we are pleased to say that it is still very alive and kicking! The original babies are now very much little people in their own right and many have a new brother or sister. Margaret and I and all the helpers have felt very privileged to be part of these young families' lives as they have shared with us some of their anxieties as well as their joys.

"We have managed to keep open all through the holiday periods, which has meant a lot to the mums. I say 'mums' because they are who usually come, but we have had one or two dads, some grandparents and child minders.

"In June we put on a simple meal when twelve mums came and really appreciated sharing a relaxing evening together.

"Most of our customers are living away from their families and we hope that we have managed to bridge that gap in their lives. One girl had a particularly bad second pregnancy and we were able to help her in a practical way as she lives so far from her own mother.

"We feel that there is a sense of evangelism in what we do even if we have not so far managed to encourage any of the families to visit church. But by offering Christian love in a practical sense we hope that they will sense our concern for them as they bring up young children in an ever-changing world."
